With the Superbowl 50 fast approaching on Sunday 7th February, brands have been leaking teasers of the big money advertisements they have been preparing for months. The average cost of a 30 second advert during the Superbowl will cost around $5 million (up 11% on last year’s costs), and the final slot is expected to fetch $6 million.
Up to 40 brands will be fighting for the attention of the audience in what is one of the biggest advertisement arenas available, and all of them will believe they have the most momentous advert leaving unforgettable impressions.
Some of the largest brands in the world will be advertising during the Superbowl pulling in celebrities and animals to promote their products and create a lot of laughter. These range from Coca Cola, who have teamed up with Marvel to run a 60 second advert, car company Kia, using Christopher Walken and a humorous sock, to the outdoor clothing company Marmot, who will introduce its furry new mascot during their slot. However, my personal winner is Heinz, who wittingly tugs on heart strings using Dachshunds dressed in little hot dog costumes.
Even with the rise of digital marketing, brands are still spending large parts of their marketing budgets on television as part of an integrated campaign to reach larger audiences.
