Heinz beans ad banned – is food advertising as memorable as it once was?


The Advertising Standards Authority has banned the current Heinz Baked Beans ad which features young people ‘learning the can song’ using empty cans. The ASA cited health and safety concerns.

Our concerns were more simple. It didn’t push any story about the product, only what to do with an empty can, which you could do with any empty can, even tinned strawberries.

There was a time when Heinz did iconic ads. Remember ‘ a million housewives every day pick up a tin of beans and say…’
