The EU General Data Protection Regulation is the new governing legislation for collecting and processing personal data. This piece of legislation will come into force on 25th May 2018 and will comprehensively reform the UK’s data protection rules. The GDPR will replace the Data Protection Act 1998 when it comes into effect. It will significantly increase sanctions for those who breach the data protection principles and expand the rights of data subjects.
The GDPR requires that personal data is processed along similar lines of the principles of the current Data Protection Act but has new requirements.
At CMS we’re able to advise on all aspects of this topic as we ensure we follow the latest data protection legislation throughout all the work we create. We send out numerous E-Marketing campaigns through our digital team and have to ensure we comply with the standards. This includes requesting consent for all email addresses that campaigns are sent out to and auditing data before they are sent. We also build and maintain client management systems which ensure that these data protection principles are fully adhered to.
If you have any questions, concerns or need any advice about the GDPR, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
